Before I Go to Sleep

Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson

After some of the young adult stuff I’ve been reading for the kids, I was looking for a change of pace. Before I Go to Sleep was a great choice!

Christine Lucas can’t remember. Her amnesia was caused by a tragic accident, and now each morning she wakes up with no memories. Everyday she wakes up in a strage bed in a strange house with a man she doesn’t know sleeping next to her. Everday that man has to explain that his name is Ben, that he is her husband, and that they are in love. Every night she forgets, and each morning it starts again . . .

. . .until the morning she gets a phone call from Dr. Nash, who brings her a journal that Christine has been keeping each day in an effort to help her remember–unknown to her husband. Which turns out to be a good thing, since at the front of the journal she wrote herself a three-word warning: “DON’T TRUST BEN.” DUN Dun dunnnn . . . .

This book had me guessing the whole time–I love it when I can’t figure it out! In fact, I thought I knew what was coming more than once, and was still surprised at the end!

The sporatic foul language and occasional descriptions of intimate “husband and wife” topics were disapointing, and I wouldn’t want anyone to pick this one up without knowing what you’re going to find. Definately a book for adults. If you can live with that, I think you’re going to enjoy Before I Go to Sleep!
